Beirut: At least one person was killed and nine others injured in an Israeli air strike near Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, as tensions continue to escalate between Israel and Lebanon.

Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that Israeli warplanes carried out a raid targeting the old airport road near Ansar Stadium in the Burj al-Barajneh area, located in the southern suburbs of Beirut. The strike marked the third such attack in the area on the same day.

Emergency services rushed to the scene as plumes of smoke rose from the targeted location, with rescue teams working to evacuate the wounded and assess the extent of the damage. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The area struck lies a short distance from the country’s main international airport, raising concerns about the safety of critical civilian infrastructure amid the ongoing hostilities.

Israeli forces have intensified strikes on southern Beirut in recent days, saying they are targeting positions linked to Hezbollah. Lebanese authorities, however, have warned that repeated attacks in densely populated areas are putting civilians at increasing risk.

The latest strike comes as cross-border violence between Israel and Hezbollah continues alongside the broader regional conflict involving Iran, heightening fears of further escalation in Lebanon.
