Vizhinjam Becomes “Port of Ports”, Proud Moment For India : Chief Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: Today, Kerala’s long-cherished dream has come true, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan speaking at the grand trial run inaugural of  the first container ship docked at Vizhinjam  International Seaport in the capital.

Port is the biggest propeller of economic advancement. With Vizhinjam, a new leaf unfurls in Kerala’s development history. We must realise this moment marks opening of a new chapter for Kerala. This is in fact a proud moment for the whole country. There are very few ports of this kind around the world  and with this, India notches a place on the global map.

Vizhinjam port is actually one among the world’s biggest ports. As indicated earlier, mother ships will arrive here in large numbers. Vizhinjam has grown into a place that can harbour the world’s largest of ships.

Although this is  trial run, it marks the commencement of port operations. The port will operate full-fledged shortly from now.

Vizhinjam is fast turning into what can be described as “mother port” or “the port of ports”. This is moment of great pride. And,   the pride does not stop here. The first phase of the port is complete. Phase 2, 3 and 4 would be completed. That’s when the port will turn into a massive dock. It was original estimated to accomplish that scale by 2045. However, going by the current pace,  it is set to happen 17 years prior.  

It is great joy to know the port would be full-fledged by 2028. That’s made possible by  allocating funds to the tune of Rs. 10,000.crores. This will enable port to be fully operational 17 years before schedule and give  State the leverage to sign contract that much early – a dimension the Adani Group is willing to cooperate with, said CM.
