Kerala Scripts History! First Mother Ship San Fernando Docks In At Vizhinjam

Thiruvananthapuram : The first mothership San Fernando arrives at Vizhinjam International Port greeted by ceremonial water salute early Thursday morning. San Fernando arrived at outer waters of Vizhinjam at 7:30 am where tug “Ocean Prestige” accorded the water salute and the lined-up tugboats berthed it at the port around 9:am.
A very large crowd gathered to witness the momentous event. Drumbeats and frenzied cheers filled the air. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will host a formal reception at 10 am tomorrow to commemorate the historic featl.
San Fernando is chartered by Maesrsk, a company in Denmark. The giant vessel is 300 meters long and 48 meters wide. Kerala scripts new history as the vessel unloads the 1930 containers laden onboard.
Vizhinjam Port is India’s first deepwater container transhipment port with a natural draft of 18-20 meters meaning, it is capacitated to dock the largest of ships in the world.
