London, UK: The Students’ Federation of India – United Kingdom (SFI- UK) commemorated the 56th Foundation Day of the organisation with events in both London and Edinburgh.

In London, the celebration took place on 30th December at Southall Town Hall and was attended by members of SFI-UK and other progressive groups from across the country. The event began with a flag hoisting ceremony, followed by a welcome address by SFI- UK Vice-President Lal Salam Sayyad. SFI-UK President Nupur then delivered a speech highlighting the historical struggles waged by the SFI and their continuing relevance in fighting fascism across borders.

The London event also featured addresses by fraternal delegates, including Harsev Bains, President of the IWA (GB), and Maise Riley, Chair of the YCL. The day concluded with a reflective session where activists shared their experiences in the SFI, along with a relieving ceremony for members moving on to new frontiers.

In Edinburgh, a 14-member student gathering marked the Foundation Day. Junaina Muhammed, Secretary of the Edinburgh subcommittee, opened the event by detailing the history and legacy of SFI. Aparna Vinod, SFI-UK Vice- President, spoke on the importance of organising and the relevance of student movements in the UK.

The discussion then involved Swetha Usha Lal, former SFI- UK President, along with Najid, SFI- UK Committee Member, and Edinburgh committee member Irfan, who shared experiences from their work within the organisation. SFI -UK members Bilal Shah, Prathemesh, Soumyadeep, Didar, Anand, Jagdish, Sharanya, Swayam, and Subrabalan contributed insights on the significance of political discourse in academic spaces and challenges faced by students.
