Abu Dhabi: In a dramatic season finale at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, McLaren’s Lando Norris secured his first Formula 1 World Championship, ending the season in spectacular fashion.
Red Bull’s defending champion Max Verstappen crossed the line first, with Norris’s McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri finishing second. Norris claimed third place, a result that was enough to edge Verstappen by two points in the season long standings. Piastri, also vying for his first title, finished third overall, 13 points behind Norris.
The 26- year -old Norris became the first British F1 champion since Lewis Hamilton in 2020, denying Verstappen a fifth consecutive crown in a season that had seen an intense three -way battle. Heading into Abu Dhabi, Norris led Verstappen by 12 points and Piastri by 16.
Starting from pole, Verstappen needed Norris to finish fourth or lower if Piastri won, while Norris had to stay outside the top five to risk losing the title. The race saw Verstappen put in a late- season surge, capturing his eighth win of the year, 71st of his career, but even that could not topple Norris, who maintained his composure under immense pressure.
Celebration erupted in the McLaren motorhome as CEO Zak Brown congratulated Norris over team radio."Lando, this is Zak from McLaren. Is this the world champion hotline? You did it! You did it! Awesome!' Brown exclaimed. Norris, overcome with emotion, alternated between laughter and tears. "Oh my God, thanks so much. I love you guys. Thanks for everything,' he said, breaking down in tears.

After the race, Norris lingered in his car for a moment of reflection before embracing his parents at the trackside, then joined McLaren engineers and mechanics for jubilant celebrations. With a mix of skill, nerves of steel, and resilience, Lando Norris has firmly etched his name in F1 history.
