Unnao Rape Survivor Welcomes Supreme Court Stay On Kuldeep Sengar’s Bail

New Delhi: The survivor in the Unnao rape case on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the Delhi High Court order that had suspended the life sentence of convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar. Expressing relief, she said the apex court’s intervention has strengthened her faith in the justice system.
The Supreme Court passed the order while hearing a plea filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which challenged the Delhi High Court’s decision to suspend Sengar’s life imprisonment and grant him bail. The apex court also issued notice to Sengar and directed him to file his response.
Reacting to the order, the survivor said she was satisfied with the Supreme Court’s decision and felt that justice had been upheld. She said she had been fighting for justice from the beginning and continued to place her trust in the judiciary. She added that she did not wish to question any court, but said the Supreme Court had given her relief and she hoped it would continue to protect her rights.
On Monday, the Supreme Court stayed the high court order that had allowed Sengar bail pending disposal of his appeal. The Delhi High Court had earlier suspended his life sentence, a move that drew sharp criticism and concern.
Sengar, a former legislator from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in the 2017 rape case. The case had sparked nationwide outrage and renewed focus on crimes against women, abuse of power and political accountability.
