Former Roommate Arrested in Tamil Nadu for Murder of Indian Woman in US

Chennai: Former roommate who fled to India after allegedly killing an Indian woman in the United States has been arrested in Tamil Nadu. The arrest is in connection with the death of Nikita Godishala (27), a data analyst in Ellicott City. The accused, Arjun Sharma, has been taken into custody. Nikita’s body was found inside an apartment owned by Arjun. An arrest warrant on murder charges had already been issued against him.
Nikita, who had been missing since New Year’s Day, was found stabbed to death inside Arjun’s apartment. It was Arjun himself who initially reported to the police that Nikita was missing. He told investigators that he had last seen her at his apartment on December 31. When police conducted a search of the apartment on January 3, Nikita’s body was discovered.
On the same day he reported Nikita missing, Arjun fled to India. Police believe the murder took place at around 7 pm on December 31. After Arjun left the country, US federal agencies coordinated with Indian authorities to track him down. As a result of continuous surveillance and intelligence sharing between agencies, Interpol arrested Arjun in Tamil Nadu.
