Bengaluru: In Bengaluru, a five-member gang posing as ED (Enforcement Directorate) officials kidnapped gold traders and stole jewellery worth 3.02 crore rupees and cash of 2 lakh rupees. The incident took place near Hubballi in Karnataka.

The victims were gold jewellery suppliers from Mangaluru. On November 19, between 3:10 pm and 3:15 pm, the five members stopped them near Dharwad. The group, speaking in Hindi, showed ED ID cards and demanded that the traders undergo inspection. They then forced the traders into a dark-coloured Maruti Ertiga car. While in the car, accusing them of smuggling, they seized the traders’ mobile phones, cash, and a bag containing around 3 kilograms of gold jewellery.

After dropping one of the traders in Kittur, the gang continued towards Hubballi with the main complainant. Around 4:30 pm, near MK Hubballi, they pushed the complainant out of the car and absconded with assets worth over 3 crore rupees.

The police have registered a case based on the traders’ complaint and have begun an investigation. CCTV footage and other evidence are being examined to identify the perpetrators.
