All Probable Causes Leading to Air India Plane Crash Being Investigated: Government

New Delhi:The civil aviation ministry on Monday said all probable causes of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad in June are under investigation, emphasising that the preliminary probe report contains factual information based on evidence available at the time.
The London Gatwick-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft, operating flight AI171, crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad on June 12, killing 260 people, including 241 passengers and 12 crew members. Only one passenger survived. Seventy-five individuals were injured in the accident.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) released its preliminary report on July 12. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol told Rajya Sabha that the investigation is ongoing and all potential causes are being examined. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also established comprehensive Civil Aviation Regulations to ensure safe aircraft operation and maintenance.
Interim compensation of 25 lakh rupees has been released to the next of kin of 237 deceased, with the remaining 11 cases at various verification stages. Full compensation processes have been initiated. Of the 75 injured, full compensation has been settled for 43, interim for 24, and 8 remain under verification. Ex gratia payments of 1 crore rupees each from Tata Trusts have been made to 86 families, including six crew members.
