Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has announced the Swadeshabhimani Kesari Award, presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of journalism. For the year 2024, the prestigious award has been conferred on senior journalist Malayinkeezh Gopalakrishnan.


The award carries a cash prize of 1 lakh rupees, a sculpture designed by renowned artist Kanayi Kunhiraman, and a citation.


A veteran Malayalam journalist and author of several historical books, Malayinkeezh Gopalakrishnan is a native of Thiruvananthapuram. He holds a postgraduate degree in History and has served at Mathrubhumi newspaper as News Editor and Special Correspondent. He is also widely known for his acclaimed column “Nagarappazhama”, which was later published as a book. He has written multiple works on history.


The award will be presented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at a function scheduled for 6 pm on February 5 at the Durbar Hall, Secretariat, Thiruvananthapuram.


The jury that selected the awardee comprised Ezhachery Ramachandran, Dr T N Seema, and Dr M V Narayanan.
