Thiruvananthapuram: Police have issued a lookout notice for Congress leader Rahul Mamkoottathil, who has gone into hiding following the sexual assault and forced abortion complaint filed by the survivor. The notice has been circulated to airports to prevent him from leaving the country. The Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner formally communicated with the Bureau of Immigration, and authorities are preparing to proceed with his arrest.

Mamkoottathil is the first accused in the case, which was initially registered by Kerala Police under non-bailable sections before being transferred to the Nemom Police Station. Youth Congress leader and Adoor native Joby Joseph, a close associate of Mamkoottathil who allegedly delivered the abortion pills, is the second accused. He also remains absconding.

The charges filed against Mamkoottathil include multiple provisions under BNS sections 64(2)(F), 64(2)(H), 64(2)(M), 89, 115(2), 351(3), 3(5), along with Section 66(E) of the Information Technology Act. These serious offences carry penalties ranging from ten years to life imprisonment.
