Yellow Alert in Three Districts Today, Orange Alert in Kannur and Kasaragod Tomorrow

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has declared a yellow alert in three districts — Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod — in view of the likelihood of heavy rain in isolated spots today. The yellow alert category signifies rainfall of between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours, accompanied by thundershowers.

Tomorrow, an orange alert has been issued for Kannur and Kasaragod, while a yellow alert is in force for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. Residents living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides and flash floods are asked to move to safe locations as directed by authorities. Those living near riverbanks and areas downstream of dams are also advised to relocate in anticipation of possible danger.

People in disaster-prone areas are urged to ensure that relief camps in their localities have opened, and to move to these camps during daylight hours. For assistance, they may contact local self-government or revenue authorities.

Fishing is banned today along the Keralam-Lakshadweep and Karnataka coasts.

Over the next three hours, isolated light rain and strong winds of up to 40 km/h are likely in Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
