Thiruvananthapuram: The body of Ranjitha, a 37-year-old nurse from Kerala who lost her life in the recent Ahmedabad plane disaster, was brought home early Tuesday morning, returning to the land and people she had loved and served from afar.
Ranjitha, a native of Pathanamthitta district, had been working in the United Kingdom to support her family when tragedy struck. Her identity was confirmed through a DNA test, bringing clarity to a family and community gripped by uncertainty and grief.
Her mortal remains arrived at the Thiruvananthapuram international airport around 7 a.m., where state ministers V Sivankutty and G R Anil were among those who received the body and paid their final respects. CPI M general secretary M A Baby also came to honour her memory.
The coffin was later taken to her village in Pullad, where it was placed at a local school to allow the public to bid a final farewell. Her brother and a close relative accompanied the body on its journey home, one marked by sorrow, yet filled with love and remembrance.
Ranjitha is survived by her two children. Loved ones and colleagues remember her as a compassionate and hardworking nurse who spent years working abroad, driven by the quiet strength and sacrifice typical of so many unsung heroes from Kerala.
Her cremation is expected to take place at her family home later in the evening, drawing a curtain on a life lost too soon, but never to be forgotten.
