CPI M State Secretary M V Govindan Alleges Congress Shielding Rahul Mamkoottathil

Kozhikode: CPI M state secretary M V Govindan has alleged that the Congress is hiding former Kerala Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkoottathil, who faces serious charges including forced abortion and sexual assault, out of fear of his arrest. Speaking at the ‘Meet the Leader’ programme organised by the Kozhikode Press Club, Govindan claimed that the party, in coordination with certain media outlets, has established a network to protect him. He expressed confidence that the absconding MLA could be apprehended soon.
According to Govindan, the disclosures and complaints related to the crimes are being discussed in Kerala with due seriousness and are not a matter of political gain. He added that Rahul’s case even includes a confession that can be legally proven in his anticipatory bail petition. Everyone wishes that a suitable punishment be imposed, and the government is taking appropriate legal measures to ensure this.
On the Sabarimala gold robbery case, Govindan clarified that CPI M does not seek to protect anyone arrested by the Special Investigation Team. He said the party’s position remains that not a single piece of gold from Sabarimala will be allowed to go missing. Earlier, Congress had demanded a CBI probe, but since the current investigation is proceeding correctly, a CBI investigation is not necessary.
Addressing political alliances, Govindan stressed that the Left has never had any understanding or alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. In the past, Jamaat-e-Islami had influence in certain wards and occasionally declared unilateral support for different fronts, but CPI M bears no responsibility for that. The Left has no connection with either majority or minority communalism. According to him, it is the UDF that seeks to exploit minority communalism by attempting to gain support from groups like Jamaat-e-Islami and the SDPI.
