Washington DC: US President Donald Trump on Saturday threatened Iran with massive military retaliation after the funeral of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei featured public calls for his killing, further highlighting rising tensions in West Asia as an interim agreement to end the war comes under increasing strain.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump warned: "1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat."
He added that the US military would "completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran"
Trump's warning came after senior US officials demanded that Iran publicly declare the Strait of Hormuz open to international shipping and guarantee that vessels passing through the strategic waterway would no longer be attacked.

Tehran has so far refused, maintaining that the strait should remain under Iranian control and that it should be allowed to levy fees on ships using the route, challenging the long-standing international position that the waterway is open to global navigation.
The latest escalation follows several days of US airstrikes on Iranian targets and Iranian retaliatory attacks across the West Asia. The renewed hostilities were triggered after Iran targeted three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week, raising fears of a wider regional conflict and further disrupting efforts to secure a lasting peace.
