Muscat: An Indian sailing vessel has reportedly sunk off the coast of Oman, with 14 Indian nationals believed to have been on board. Rescue operations are currently underway involving the Indian Navy, the US Navy, and nearby merchant vessels.
The incident occurred approximately 80 nautical miles east of Ras al Hadd, according to reports. The US Navy was the first to alert authorities after learning of the vessel going down.
A US Navy P-8 maritime patrol aircraft promptly deployed a life raft near the stricken vessel in an effort to assist those on board. Reports indicate that crew members had already boarded life rafts as the vessel began to sink. The cause of the sinking remains unclear.
