Kollam – In a powerful address at the 24th CPI(M) Kerala State Conference, CPI(M) Politburo member and Coordinator Prakash Karat stated Kerala a bastion of resistance against the pro-corporate Hindutva nexus, positioning the state as a guiding force for the country in the struggle for equality, justice, and secularism. The conference, held at the Kodiyeri Balakrishnan Nagar within the C. Keshavan Memorial Town Hall, brought together delegates and comrades from across the state, united in their resolve to advance the revolutionary struggle against neoliberal exploitation and communal fascism.
Karat’s speech resonated with the spirit of class struggle, as he emphasized the CPI(M)’s unwavering commitment to an alternative model of development—one that directly challenges the exploitative forces of neoliberal capitalism. He lauded the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government for its steadfast efforts to uphold secular values and resist the rising tide of Hindutva communalism, which seeks to divide the working class and consolidate a reactionary, authoritarian regime.
A Call to Resist Fascism and Neoliberalism
Karat did not mince words in his critique of the Modi-led BJP government, accusing it of deepening societal divisions and intensifying communal hatred to polarize the masses. He warned of the growing specter of fascism, which is increasingly taking root under the RSS-BJP’s rule, and called for the urgent formation of a broad, united front to halt the country’s descent into neo-fascism. While responding to the accusations of Congress leader VD Satheeshan, he said, “The CPI(M) does not require the approval of the Congress leadership in Kerala in our battle against the BJP,” reaffirming the party’s independent and uncompromising stance against the forces of reaction.
He also paid tribute to the six comrades martyred since the last conference, victims of RSS-BJP violence, and questioned whether further evidence was needed of the CPI(M)’s steadfast resistance to the fascist forces of the BJP. Their sacrifice, Karat noted, is a reflection of the party’s unwavering commitment to the revolutionary cause.
The Decline of American Hegemony
Karat also addressed the shifting balance of power on the global stage, highlighting the weakening grip of American imperialism and the rise of China as a global power—economically, militarily, and politically. He pointed to the reactions of U.S. President Donald Trump as clear signs of this transformation, underscoring the need for anti-imperialist solidarity in the face of a changing world order.
The conference commenced with Prakash Karat’s inspiring address, setting the tone for the discussions and resolutions to follow. AK Balan, a member of the Central Committee, assumed the role of temporary chairperson, guiding the proceedings with a focus on the party’s ongoing struggles and future direction. KN Balagopal, Chairman of the Reception Committee, delivered the welcome speech, extending a warm greeting to all delegates and setting the stage for a fruitful and engaging conference.
State Secretary MV Govindan will present a detailed report on the party’s achievements and challenges, highlighting the CPI(M)’s role in advancing the interests of the working class and marginalized communities. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will outline the vision of “New Pathways for New Kerala” in a development document, emphasizing the need for sustainable and equitable growth that prioritizes the needs of the people over corporate profits. The conference will culminate on Sunday afternoon with a Red Army march and a public rally.
