New Delhi: Reducing GST rates is nothing but an attempt to hoodwink the people, said CPI M General Secretary MA Baby. If the central government’s real intention was to make the people of the country self- reliant, it would not have allowed 100 percent FDI in insurance or opened up crucial sectors such as defence and mining for exploitation, he said in a Facebook post. He also criticised the government for failing to stand firm against the tariff threats imposed by the US.
Baby’s post came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the GST rate cut would come into effect from tomorrow (September 22). While NRIs continue to suffer under the current policies of Trump, who maintains a close relationship with Modi, the prime minister announced the GST relief without offering any response on that matter. States have already demanded central intervention on issues related to the H-1B visa.
