M.A. Baby Condemns BJP’s Hasty Special Intensive Revision Process; Calls for Immediate Halt and Accountability

New Delhi: CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby strongly condemned the BJP-led Union Government’s approach to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, describing it as not only unjust but also dangerously reckless. In a post on X, Baby highlighted reports of deaths among Booth Level Officers (BLOs) tasked with completing the revision in an unreasonably short time frame, causing widespread distress.
"The Election Commission, at the behest of the ruling BJP, is hastily pushing forward with this process, despite a pending petition in the Supreme Court," Baby stated. "The reports from across the country and the FIRs filed by the Uttar Pradesh government against BLOs make it clear that this process is not just depriving a large number of voters of their rights but is now endangering precious lives as well."
M.A. Baby demanded that the Election Commission immediately halt the Special Intensive Revision procedure, take full responsibility for the loss of lives, and ensure compensation for the grieving families. "Anything less than this is unacceptable," he added.
