Kottayam: The United Democratic Front (UDF) has decided to allot a seat to the Muslim League in the Kottayam district panchayath, marking the first time the League will have a presence in the local body. The exact seat will be announced within two days.

The League had reportedly exerted strong pressure for the allotment. The UDF’s seat-sharing arrangement has now been finalised: Congress – 14, Kerala Congress (Joseph) – 8, Muslim League – 1.

Meanwhile, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is intensifying efforts to capture the Kottayam municipality. NCP leader Lathika Subhash has been fielded as the LDF candidate from Ward 48, Thirunakkara. Known for its history of administrative inefficiency and corruption, Kottayam municipality is a key target for the LDF, which is working strategically to wrest control from the UDF.
