Pathanamthitta: The police have taken Unnikrishnan Potty, the prime accused in the case of gold stolen from the Dwarapalaka idols and door frames at Sabarimala, into 14-day custody, which will last until October 30. During this period, investigators plan to complete detailed questioning and collect crucial evidence. Reports indicate that Potty will be taken to Bengaluru for the first round of evidence collection.
On Friday around 12 PM, he was produced before the Ranni First Class Magistrate Court, with the proceedings held in a closed room. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had formally requested custody of Potty.
Potty, a Bengaluru-based businessman, was taken into custody from his residence at Pulimath on Thursday. His questioning, which lasted more than ten hours, concluded early Friday morning, after which the SIT formally recorded his arrest.
The interrogation was conducted at the Crime Branch office in Inchakkal, Thiruvananthapuram, under the supervision of SP Sashidhar. Sources indicate that the questioning revealed critical information, including details of alleged conspiracies related to the Sabarimala gold theft.
Police officials have stated that the custody period will allow investigators to thoroughly follow leads and gather evidence essential to the ongoing probe into the high-profile theft case.
