Thiruvananthapuram: The probe into the Sabarimala gold theft case is progressing in the right direction, CPI M State Secretary M V Govindan said on Thursday. Addressing a press conference at the AKG Centre, he reiterated the party’s full support for a comprehensive and unbiased investigation.

“Whoever has committed the crime must be brought before the law. CPI M has, from the beginning, demanded a thorough inquiry to prevent such incidents from recurring,” Govindan said.

He added that the arrest of former Travancore Devaswom Board president M Pathmakumar would be examined in detail. “If the findings indicate that he failed to discharge his duties as directed by the LDF government, the party will take strict action,” he noted.

Govindan criticised UDF’s earlier stand of refusing to cooperate with the inquiry. “They demanded a CBI probe and even tried to disrupt the Assembly session convened to pass important bills. The same people who opposed the police investigation are now issuing statements,” he said.

Referring to the arrests of Unnikrishnan Potty, Murari Babu, Sudheesh Kumar and K S Baiju, Govindan stressed that CPI M never viewed the case through a political lens. “All investigations under the supervision of the High Court are welcome. Every culprit will be brought before the law, and no one will be shielded,” he stated.
