Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan accused the opposition of creating smoke screens in the Assembly due to fear of discussing issues. He said the opposition had obstructed proceedings for two consecutive days, a stance that, he added, was unacceptable.
“The opposition has resorted to unprecedented actions in the Assembly, including deliberately covering the Speaker’s face. While protests have occurred before, this form of disruption is unprecedented. Despite bringing the House to a standstill for two days, the opposition has yet to clarify its demands,” the Chief Minister said.
He emphasised that the government is willing to provide explanations on any matter. “The banners in the Assembly talk of ‘fear’. What is visible there is their own fear. There are multiple ways to raise issues during question time, through submissions, or by using the special privileges of the opposition leader. Yet, the opposition, fearing facts, has chosen none of these and is only attempting to create smoke screens. We are not intimidated by such tactics,” he added.
Sabarimala Investigation
On issues related to Sabarimala, Pinarayi Vijayan said a Special Investigation Team, led by the ADGP, is conducting inquiries as per High Court directions, assuring that no one would be shielded. “The government will take action without bias. When all proper procedures exist, they resort to these theatrics. Demands for a CBI probe, for instance, have political undertones. The opposition knows parliamentary procedures but is using them as a pretext for disruption,” he said.
