Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has revised the rainfall warnings for Kerala, issuing an orange alert for tomorrow in Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. These areas are likely to receive isolated very heavy rainfall, with predicted amounts ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within 24 hours.
A yellow alert has been declared for other districts over the next few days. On Sunday, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod are under the alert. On Monday, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad will be covered. On Tuesday, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam districts are expected to experience yellow alert conditions. Isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is possible in these areas.
The Disaster Management Authority has warned coastal residents to exercise caution, as water levels in several rivers across the state are rising. People are advised not to enter or attempt to cross rivers under any circumstances. Residents in flood-prone areas should be prepared to temporarily relocate as per official instructions.
Strong winds of 40–50 km/h, occasionally reaching 60 km/h, along with adverse weather, are expected along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts, prompting the continuation of the fishing ban. The IMD has instructed fishermen operating in the deep sea to return immediately to the nearest coast.
