Thiruvananthapuram: Onam season sales through Supplyco have crossed Rs. 319 crore as of Monday evening. The initial target was Rs. 300 crore. In comparison, sales during the same period in 2024 amounted to Rs. 183 crore. Food Minister G. R. Anil stated at a press conference that the state government's market intervention has benefited over two crore people. On Monday alone, a record-breaking daily sale of Rs. 21.31 crore was achieved.

The government undertook special interventions in the sale of rice, coconut oil, and chillies. Coconut oil priced at Rs. 457 was made available through Supplyco outlets. Since August 25, the price was reduced from Rs. 457 to Rs. 429. The subsidised Shabari brand coconut oil, earlier priced at Rs. 349 per litre, has now been reduced to Rs. 339. The non-subsidised variant was brought down from Rs. 429 to Rs. 389, helping control the price of coconut oil.

In addition to 8 kg of subsidised rice, each ration cardholder was provided with 20 kg of raw or parboiled rice at a subsidised rate of Rs. 25 per kg. A total of 92.8 lakh kg of rice was sold. Out of 6,14,217 free food kits, 4,05,890 have been distributed so far.

In August, 14.94 crore kg of rice was distributed through ration shops. A total of 82,53,715 (86.75%) ration cardholders collected their entitlements. Among the priority category, 40,59,089 families (97.22%) received their ration share.

Supplyco (Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation) has played a central role in the state’s public distribution and market stabilization efforts, especially during the festive season. With a widespread network of outlets across Kerala, Supplyco ensures the availability of essential commodities at subsidised rates, effectively shielding consumers from price surges.
