Kannur: The Kerala government has approved Rs. 99.9 lakh for the development of a Manaveeyam Veedhi-model street at Peralassery under the Dharmadam Assembly constituency in Kannur, with the aim of enhancing the tourism potential of the region.

Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas said the project would provide a “quality ambience for tourists and local visitors” in Dharmadam.

“Over the last four years, the Tourism Department has identified and developed several such destinations as part of efforts to transform Kerala into an integrated experiential tourism ecosystem suited to modern travellers,” he added.

The project, expected to be completed within ten months, will include road-front beautification, a children’s play zone with modern equipment, kiosks, a cafeteria, an open-air theatre, street lighting, furniture, and essential plumbing and electrical works.

Modeled on the popular Manaveeyam Veedhi in Thiruvananthapuram, the Peralassery street will be designed as a cultural space featuring artistic installations and open areas for performances, literary events, and community gatherings. Officials said the initiative is aimed at creating a vibrant hub for both tourists and residents.
