KC Venugopal Intervenes After Reports of N Shakthan’s Resignation as DCC President; Offers Assembly Seat

Thiruvananthapuram: After news broke that N. Shakthan had resigned from the post of DCC president, K. C. Venugopal intervened. Since Shakthan had already handed over his resignation letter to the KPCC, K. C. Venugopal reached out with an offer of an Assembly seat. Following this, Shakthan came forward denying the reports of his resignation.
Shakthan had earlier informed the leadership that he did not want to continue as the temporary president of the Thiruvananthapuram DCC, a role he had taken up only on an interim basis. His move came after no action was taken by the leadership. It was reported that Shakthan felt that continuing in the president’s post would hinder his wish to contest in the upcoming assembly elections.
Shakthan was given temporary charge when Palode Ravi got caught in a phone-call controversy. The leadership had assured that a new president would be appointed within two weeks. However, those supporting Shakthan’s resignation say that the delay in appointing a new president is due to Opposition Leader V. D. Satheesan’s insistence—arguing that Palode Ravi’s successor must be someone he recommends, since Ravi was considered close to him. Discussions suggested that Satheesan was unwilling to consider anyone other than Chempazhanthi Anil for the post.
