IC Balakrishnan MLA Named in FIR in Congress Recruitment Bribery Case

Kalpetta: An FIR has been registered by the Vigilance against IC Balakrishnan MLA in connection with the Congress recruitment bribery case that led to the deaths of Wayanad DCC Treasurer NM Vijayan and his son. Vigilance received evidence that Vijayan was used by Balakrishnan as a middleman to collect the bribe.

While Balakrishnan was DCC President, the Congress leader allegedly promised appointments in Congress-run cooperative banks in exchange for money. Ultimately, when the liability fell entirely on Vijayan, he and his son took their own lives on December 27, 2024. The suicide note implicated Balakrishnan, ND Appachan, and others.

It was alleged that 15 lakh rupees was collected through an MLA’s office employee as part of the recruitment bribe. A recommendation letter provided by the MLA for the bank appointment also surfaced. Balakrishnan is named as the primary accused in the case related to abetment of suicide.
