Alappuzha: The DYFI staged protest marches against the incident in which students were made to wash the feet of BJP leaders and teachers in schools controlled by the RSS. The protests were held at Attuva Vivekananda Vidyapeedom School in Edappon, Nooranad, and at the Vidyadhiraja Vidyapeedom Central and Sainik School in Mavelikkara. The march in Edappon was inaugurated by DYFI district secretary James Samuel, and the one in Mavelikkara by Central Committee member R Rahul.
At Attuva Vivekananda Vidyapeedom School in Edappon, BJP district secretary K K Anoop had his feet washed by a student. In response, the SFI district committee filed a complaint with the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

At Vivekananda Vidyapeedom, students are reportedly prohibited from bringing and consuming non- vegetarian food. Until recently, even wearing shoes inside the school premises was banned. Students had to remove their footwear outside and walk barefoot to class. This rule was revoked after protests from parents.
After the DYFI’s protest march and meeting on Saturday night, BJP workers allegedly tried to incite provocation.
