DYFI Condemns attack on P M Arsho by BJP leader Prashanth Sivan during Channel Election Debate

Thiruvananthapuram: DYFI has strongly condemned the assault on CPI (M) State Committee member PM Arsho by BJP district President Prashanth Sivan during a panel debate organised by Manorama News in Palakkad.
DYFI has stated that the incident reflects BJP's undemocratic and intolerant mindset. The statement by the organisation further stated that, instead of addressing the issues faced by the people in the constituency and how the current Sangh Parivar administration in the municipality has failed to do so, Prashanth Sivan, who was a co panelist in the debate, resorted to hooliganism and didn't bother to maintain basic decorum during the debate.
DYFI also warned that Prashanth Sivan's behaviour is a sign of dangers that could arise if BJP and Sangh Parivar's influence grows. “Those who think they can silence opposing views through violence and intimidation will be exposed. People will recognise these anti-democratic forces that thrive on intolerance and communal hatred, and they will be resisted through united public action,” the statement further said.
The incident took place during an election debate organised at Cheriya Kottamaidan in Palakkad. According to reports, the altercation began when Arsho questioned Prashanth Sivan for using abusive language during the discussion. Enraged, Prashanth Sivan allegedly stepped down from the stage and physically pushed Arsho.
From the beginning, Prashanth Sivan’s behaviour during the debate was marked by a lack of restraint and decorum, reportedly causing discomfort to both the moderator and the audience. Despite repeated requests to remain civil, he continued using offensive language. Following the altercation, BJP workers present at the venue attempted to create a scuffle, throwing chairs and causing chaos. Police intervened promptly and brought the situation under control, after which the channel called off the program.
