Kochi: The UDF has consistently aligned with communal forces and worked in cooperation with them, said CPI M General Secretary M A Baby. Outside Kerala, Congress and the BJP may act as though they are adversaries, but within the state they stand united against the CPI M and the LDF. They are even holding discussions with minority communal groups with the knowledge of the Muslim League, he alleged. Baby was speaking while inaugurating the LDF election convention of the Kochi Corporation.
The LDF, which stands for secularism and communal harmony, opposes all forms of communalism. The upcoming elections to local self- government bodies are, therefore, a political struggle that requires vigilance against every kind of communal and divisive tendency. The CPI M and the LDF have a principled and uncompromising opposition to communalism. Those who are part of the LDF, he said, have the strength to respond firmly and decisively to such forces. He added that the state government has openly disagreed even with the communal positions taken by the Governor.
Baby pointed out that people know how the BJP won its first-ever seat in the Legislative Assembly from Nemom, and how the party’s candidate secured victory in the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency, which had previously been held by the Congress. In both cases, the BJP’s majority emerged largely because the Congress candidate received fewer votes.
He urged voters to consider not only the development and welfare initiatives implemented by the LDF in local bodies, but also to remain alert to those who align with communal forces. This vigilance, he said, is essential for the security and well-being of Kerala.
