Kerala's First Private Airline Set to Take Off from Kochi in June

Aluva, Kerala: Kerala's first private airline, Air Kerala, is set to commence operations in June 2025, with its inaugural flight taking off from Kochi. he airline marked a significant milestone today by inaugurating its corporate office in Aluva, a key development in its journey.
Industries Minister P. Rajeeve, who formally opened the office, assured that the state government would extend full support to the airline. The corporate office, strategically located near the metro station at Aluva Bypass Junction, spans three floors and can accommodate up to 200 aviation professionals working simultaneously.
According to Air Kerala Chairman Afi Ahmed, the inaugural flight will operate from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram in the second week of June. The airline plans to connect various cities across India using 72-seater economy class ATR aircraft. To gauge public interest, Air Kerala is currently inviting feedback through its official website regarding preferred routes and acceptable fare ranges.

In preparation for its launch, Air Kerala has entered into an agreement with an Irish company to lease five aircraft for its initial operations, with future plans to purchase its own fleet. The airline aims to provide affordable air travel to the public and connect small towns in southern and central India with metro cities.
"Air Kerala will operate ultra-low-cost flight services," said Afi Ahmed during a recent press conference. As a special promotion, three individuals who provide the best suggestions for routes and fares will be offered free tickets on the inaugural flight.
The airline has ambitious expansion plans, with international services to be launched in the future, subject to regulatory approvals. By the end of this year, Air Kerala aims to generate approximately 750 job opportunities, significantly contributing to Kerala's economy, employment, and tourism sectors.
The inauguration event was attended by several dignitaries, including MPs Hibi Eden and Benny Behanan, MLAs Anwar Sadath and Roji M. John, and senior officials from Air Kerala.
