Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) state secretary M. V. Govindan said on Saturday that the political atmosphere in Kerala is favourable for the LDF following the completion of the nomination process for the local body elections. He said the development initiatives undertaken by the LDF government, along with people-oriented policies, have created a political environment that supports the front.

M. V. Govindan said the LDF is entering the election with unity and is contesting on the basis of secular values and Kerala’s development record. He criticised the opposition, including the UDF, stating that they have not contributed to the state’s development and have consistently opposed major projects, attempting to create the impression that nothing is moving forward in Kerala.

He said the Muslim League and the UDF are working together with Jamaat-e-Islami and the SDPI, and that this alignment is weakening Kerala’s secular framework. Such moves, he said, end up strengthening the BJP. According to him, joining hands with Jamaat-e-Islami and the SDPI for electoral gains causes serious harm to secularism, a reality the UDF fails to acknowledge.

Govindan added that the BJP and the Sangh Parivar are trying to push divisive politics by advancing a Hindutva agenda. The CPI(M) leader made these remarks at a press conference.
