Kotdwar: John Brittas’s visit to 'Muhammad Deepak' and Haji Salman gave them confidence as they live under threats from Hindutva forces. He promised them that he would strongly protest against the BJP government’s stand in Uttarakhand over the persecution of those who attempted to stop the riot. The MP, who honoured them by adorning a shawl, also gifted them aromatic spices and an Aranmula mirror.

He visited Deepak’s gymnasium, which Hindutva forces had tried to attack, as well as Deepak’s mother’s tea shop and Muhammad Haji’s textile shop, both of which were attacked. After spending some time exercising, he took an annual gym membership. He drank tea from his mother’s shop and purchased textiles from Haji’s shop.

Deepak stated that he does not fear the Sangh Parivar. He said they are now trying to shut down the gymnasium. Earlier, around 150 people used to come to the gym, but now the number has reduced to just 7–8. He expressed hope that the situation would change and said that many people are coming forward to support him.

Haji Salman said that after Deepak’s video went viral, Kotdwar has single-handedly come out in support of him. Even though he faces physical weakness due to old age, he plans to continue running his shop. “No one can stop the peace in Kotdwar,” he said, while holding Deepak’s hand.
