Thiruvananthapuram: The horrific suicide of Ananthu Aji, a young resident of Vanchimala, Kottayam, has exposed the dark underbelly of RSS operations in Kerala, where rampant sexual abuse has allegedly been carried out under the guise of organisational activities.
Ananthu, who had courageously revealed sexual abuse at an RSS camp, left behind a chilling suicide note and a pre -recorded Instagram video identifying Nitheesh Muraleedharan, a senior RSS leader, as one of the perpetrators. In the note, he had initially referred to the abuser only as “NM,” but the video leaves no doubt about Nithish’s involvement.
The police have now moved to register a case, with the Ponkunnam police taking up charges of unnatural sexual assault and the Thampanoor police handling abetment to suicide. Senior PP Manu Kallampally, who is providing legal guidance to the authorities, has confirmed that Ananthu’s video can be accepted as evidence, making it a crucial element in bringing justice to the victim.
Nitheesh Muraleedharan, currently absconding, is also known to be leading activities of the Balagokulam organisation and is reported to own a business near Kanjirappally, which locals claim has remained open for several days despite the serious allegations against him. Ananthu’s suicide note paints a horrifying picture of widespread sexual abuse against children in RSS branches and camps, underlining a systemic culture of exploitation.
The swift registration of the case and the ongoing investigation mark a critical step in holding the RSS accountable. While Nitheesh remains at large, the probe represents a rare instance of the law confronting a long-standing culture of impunity within the organisation, sending a warning that such abuses will not go unpunished.
