New Delhi: The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has called for nationwide protests against the visit of Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to India from September 8 to 10.
In a press release, the SFI Central Executive Committee, led by President Adarsh M Saji and General Secretary Srijan Bhattacharyya, condemned the visit, describing it as unacceptable in view of Israel’s actions in Palestine. The statement criticised reports that India and Israel are set to sign a bilateral investment treaty to pave the way for a free trade agreement, calling such moves derogatory to India’s ideals.
The student organisation described the Israeli government as a “criminal state” responsible for a genocide that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinian children and accused the BJP government of insulting India internationally by hosting Smotrich.
SFI demanded that the union government withdraw from the proposed business agreements with Israel and urged all its units to organise protest demonstrations on September 9 and 10 under the slogan “Bezalel Smotrich Go Back.”
