Mumbai: The BCCI has named Shreyas Iyer as India's T20 captain for the upcoming series against Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games in Japan. Current captain Suryakumar Yadav has been dropped from the squad. Malayali star Sanju Samson retains his place in the team.

The standout selection is teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who becomes the youngest player ever to be named in an Indian squad — surpassing a record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar.

Shreyas's strong IPL performances as a middle-order batter earned him the captaincy. Suryakumar, despite leading India to the T20 World Cup, struggled with the bat thereafter and could not find form in the IPL either. His age was also cited as a factor working against him.
