Chennai: India delivered a strong display at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, defeating Zimbabwe by 72 runs in a must-win Super Eights clash of the T20 Cricket World Cup. The emphatic victory kept India’s semi-final hopes alive.
Batting first, India piled up a massive 256 for six, striking boundaries and electrifying the Chepauk crowd. In response, Zimbabwe managed 184 for six, falling well short of the daunting target. India can further strengthen their qualification prospects with a win over the West Indies on Sunday.
The innings provided much-needed reassurance at the top order, with openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson rediscovering their touch. Sanju, though unable to convert his start into a big score, made a brisk 24 off 15 balls to give the team early momentum.
Abhishek, who had been dismissed earlier in three consecutive matches, responded in style with a fluent 55 off 30 deliveries. His knock, studded with four boundaries and a six, justified the faith reposed in him by the team management.
India’s dominant batting performance set the tone for a commanding win, sending the home crowd into celebration and keeping their World Cup campaign firmly on track.
