Kannur: Kannur University in India has developed a groundbreaking technology that can estimate a person's height and weight based solely on their voice. The system, created by researchers at the university's Information Technology department, can even determine whether the individual is sitting or standing without any visual input.

Researchers

The research team used machine learning and artificial intelligence to analyse the vocal tract system, measuring its length to predict physical attributes. The study was conducted by Dr. Aljinu Kader and V V Sameer under the guidance of Dr. R K Sunilkumar. Their findings have been published in Speech Technology, a top-tier international journal by Springer.
This innovation has significant applications in forensic investigations, particularly in cases where voice recordings are the only available evidence. It can help law enforcement identify suspects, determine their physical characteristics, and even assess their posture while speaking. The technology is expected to enhance criminal investigations, surveillance, and legal proceedings where voice analysis plays a crucial role.
The research marks a major advancement in forensic voice analysis, offering new tools for police and forensic teams to solve crimes more effectively. Experts believe this AI- driven approach could also find uses in security and bio metric authentication in the future.
