Perambra: Congress landed in deep embarrassment after trying to steal credit for a Life Mission house built under Perambra panchayat. At a grand “family gathering,” MP Shafi Parambil even staged a key- handover drama, only to face ridicule.

The house was sanctioned in 2021 for Preethi and her late husband Ashokan, a Scheduled Caste family from Komacham Kandi, Vengappatta. They signed the agreement on February 9, 2021, and paid one lakh rupees in two installments. Ashokan, who was ailing, died soon after.

Preethi started building the house on October 26, 2021, and finished it by December 17, 2022. The money, four lakh rupees from the Life Mission scheme and another 26,017 rupees under employment guarantee wages, came straight from the government.

Still, Congress went around spreading posters and boards, bragging that it was their house, and handed over the keys as if they had paid for it.

This shameless stunt backfired, with CPI M marching through Koderichal and holding a protest meeting. Panchayat standing committee chairman K Priyesh kicked it off, saying Shafi Parambil was spinning webs like a spider to hijack government projects. Protesters demanded that Congress apologise to the people for trying to fool them. T K Raju, K N Nijin, and Savithri also slammed the farce.
