Complaint filed against Rahul with police and Child Rights Commission over forced abortion

Kochi: A complaint has been filed demanding that a case be registered against MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil for allegedly pressuring a woman to undergo a forced abortion. Advocate Shinto Sebastian lodged the complaint with the Ernakulam Central Police Station and the Child Rights Commission. The complaint states that TV Reporter had released an audio recording in which Rahul pressured a woman to undergo an abortion, which amounts to a criminal offence. It further points out that an inquiry must be conducted to determine whether the unborn child was alive and strict legal action should be taken. The life and health of the mother are also facing serious threats, the complaint added.

The act constitutes a violation of the unborn child’s right to live and is punishable under criminal law. Throughout the conversation, Rahul can be heard compelling the mother to abort the child. It is evident from the recording that the woman was being threatened, pressured, and subjected to both mental and physical harassment. The complaint stresses that this constitutes a grave criminal offence under serious provisions of law. It demands immediate registration of an FIR and investigation, along with intervention by the Child Rights Commission to safeguard the rights of the unborn child.
