Hands Bloodied by Empire: Modi's Shameful Pact with a Rogue State

For over 75 years, the Zionist apartheid state of Israel has maintained a brutal colonial occupation of Palestine, turning the lives of millions into a living hell. In the last two years alone, Israel has unleashed an unrelenting campaign of genocide in Gaza, with systematic daily bombings aimed at wiping out an entire people, a genocide.

Hundreds of thousands of people, with nowhere even to take shelter, are fleeing daily from Israel’s brutal bombings in Gaza. More than 64,000 Palestinians, including tens of thousands of children, women, and the elderly, have been killed in direct attacks over the past 23 months.

All attempts at ceasefire and peace are being sabotaged by the Zionist settler-colonial regime led by Netanyahu and his gang of war criminals. Israel, acting with complete disregard for international law, continues to carry out attacks even beyond Palestine’s borders—Tuesday’s airstrike in Qatar, targeting Palestinian leaders, being just the latest example.

The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu ten months ago. Even traditional imperialist allies like Britain and France, long complicit in Zionist crimes, are now being forced to impose sanctions and restrictions on Israeli ministers to protect their own credibility.

But in the midst of this global uprising of solidarity with Palestine, Modi's fascist Hindutva regime in India has shamelessly chosen to tighten its alliance with Israel—a pariah state increasingly isolated on the world stage.

The Indian state rolled out the red carpet this week for one of Israel’s most notorious war criminals, Bezalel Smotrich, a racist extremist who has openly called for the erasure of the Palestinian people and has declared that he will never accept the existence of a Palestinian state. Smotrich, sanctioned by countries like Britain and Canada, has incited fascist settlers to carry out pogroms against Palestinians in the West Bank. He is the same man who, twenty years ago, was caught with 700 liters of petrol, preparing a terrorist attack to stop Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza.

This is the man the Modi regime embraced—a genocidal maniac treated like a statesman, exposing once again the utter moral bankruptcy of the Indian ruling class. In doing so, Modi has betrayed the anti-imperialist, anti-colonial legacy of the Indian people and aligned himself squarely with global fascism.

Many international human rights organizations have already declared what Israel is doing in Gaza is nothing short of genocide. Most recently, the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS)—a highly respected global body of genocide experts—released a report detailing war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel over the past 23 months in Gaza.

This comes just as the 80th anniversary session of the United Nations began on Tuesday in New York. The high-level general debate, where heads of state will participate, is scheduled for the final week of the session, which runs until September 28. Even Israel’s closest allies like France and Britain have now been forced to issue warnings that unless Israel halts its assault on Gaza before the summit, they may move toward formally recognizing the State of Palestine.

Israel has responded not with restraint but with arrogance and violence, threatening to escalate its illegal annexation of Palestinian land. This is the consistent pattern of the Zionist project: since its artificial creation 77 years ago—under imperialist sponsorship and at the cost of Palestinian land and lives—Israel has operated as a garrison state for Western capital in the Middle East.

Zionism, far from being a liberation movement, is a colonial enterprise propped up by US imperialism and European guilt. Israel continues to deflect all criticism by smearing it as “antisemitism,” but this tactic is losing its grip. Across the West, people are rising up in massive mobilizations to demand justice for Palestine. The lies are falling apart.

But the Modi government remains a servile junior partner to US imperialism, desperate to please both Israel and US. The deals signed with Israel won’t help ordinary Indians—they will only fatten the profits of the corporate oligarchs that bankroll the BJP-RSS regime.

The Indian working class, student movements, progressive forces, and all anti-fascist, anti-imperialist people must rise to condemn this alliance of fascists—from Israel to India. The liberation of Palestine is not just a regional issue—it is a global struggle against capitalism, racism, colonialism, and imperialism.

From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.
