Chennai: As the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach, Tamil Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and actor Vijay is reportedly planning to contest from two constituencies. According to sources, Vijay has shortlisted four constituencies, guided partly by his belief that constituencies beginning with the letter “V” could be favourable for his electoral prospects.

The constituencies under preliminary consideration are Virugambakkam, Velachery, Vikravandi and Vedaranyam. Of these, Virugambakkam and Velachery—both located within Chennai city limits—are said to be the frontrunners.

TVK leadership believes that contesting from urban constituencies will help strengthen the party’s presence in cities and enable closer engagement with voters. Vijay is also said to view the symbolic alignment of his name’s initial with the constituency names as a positive factor.

The party is gearing up for the elections with confidence, citing the performance of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, which won 115 seats in the 2011 local body elections. Vijay has previously asserted that TVK is the only political force capable of defeating the ruling DMK, and that the upcoming election will primarily be a contest between the DMK and TVK.

The final decision on the constituencies will be announced after consultations with party workers and leaders. Meanwhile, political observers note that the Karur tragedy and the subsequent investigation are also expected to emerge as key issues during the election campaign.
