New Delhi: Union Minister of State for External Affairs S. Jaishankar informed the Rajya Sabha that the United States has repatriated 18,822 Indian nationals since 2009. From January 2025 until now, 3,258 people have been brought back to India. Of these, 2,032 travelled on regular commercial flights, while 1,226 were returned via US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Protection chartered flights.

In 2023, the US repatriated 617 Indians, and in 2024, 1,368 were sent back. Minister Jaishankar noted that Punjab has the highest number of human trafficking cases.

The minister also stated that the use of US chartered flights to bring Indians back in inhumane conditions had drawn widespread protests. India has raised serious concerns with the US regarding the inhumane treatment of repatriated citizens.
