Two Killed in Explosion at Chemical Factory in Karnataka

Mandya: Two people were killed in an explosion at a chemical factory in Mandya, and four others were seriously injured. The explosion occurred at a chemical storage tank in the factory located in Karekatte village. The incident took place while the factory was in the process of relocating to a new site. Two workers died on the spot, while the injured were rushed to the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment.
The explosion occurred on Sunday during the cleaning of a chemical tank as part of the relocation process. Police have stated that an investigation is underway.
In 2022, a toxic gas leak at the factory caused significant damage to nearby crops and resulted in the death of animals. Following this, locals expressed serious concerns about the safety of the factory. After strong protests from farmers and residents, the factory's operations were suspended. As a result of this incident, a decision was made to relocate the factory.
