Chennai: A local leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has been hacked to death in Adyar. The victim has been identified as Kannan. A group armed with weapons descended on the young man as he stood by the roadside on Saturday night. CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced.
Reports suggest Kannan had been linked to the murder of a person named Shiva in 2009. Police have constituted a special investigation team to apprehend the accused. Kannan's body has been shifted to hospital and will be handed over to his family following inquest and post-mortem procedures.
In the wake of the incident, Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin came out with sharp criticism of Chief Minister Vijay, saying the law and order situation in the state has clearly broken down and that the government is unable to protect even a TVK leader. He said the TVK government should stop blaming the DMK and instead focus on protecting the lives and property of the people.
