TGSRTC Employees Launch Strike for Salary Revision, 32 Other Demands

Hyderabad: Employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation have launched a strike under the banner of their joint action committee, raising 32 demands including salary revision, job security, and filling vacant posts.

The workers took to the streets alleging that the government delayed talks despite being served a strike notice 41 days ago. One of their key demands is the complete merger of the corporation with the state government.

Accusing the Congress-led government in Telangana of failing to fulfill pre-election promises, employees staged protests in front of various depots. With RTC buses off the roads, the state’s public transport system has come to a near standstill.

The disruption has severely affected commuters, especially those traveling to offices and educational institutions. There are also widespread complaints of private vehicles and autorickshaws overcharging passengers amid the crisis.

To prevent untoward incidents in areas witnessing intense protests, heavy police deployment has been made. According to TGSRTC Managing Director Y Nagi Reddy, a special committee has been formed to address the issues, and about four weeks are needed to consider the demands in phases.

He urged employees to cooperate with the government and withdraw the strike. However, worker unions have made it clear they will not back down without concrete assurances on their demands.
