New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the Central government on a petition filed by Telegram challenging the order blocking the messaging platform in India. The company approached the court arguing that the Central government's action would cause hardship to 150 million users and sought a stay on the restriction.

While the High Court agreed to take up the petition urgently, the case has been adjourned to Thursday after the Central government sought time to file its reply.

The temporary restriction on access to Telegram was imposed ahead of the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for June 21. The move has drawn sharp criticism, with many pointing out that a temporary ban that leaves the underlying problem of examination fraud unaddressed serves no lasting purpose.
