Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has barred students and youth from participating in protests organised by left-wing organisations and the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). The Collegiate Education Department has issued instructions to the Education Department, Higher Education Department, police and district administrations in this regard.

The departments have been directed to take steps to prevent students and youth from participating in protests against the government. They have also been instructed to submit reports detailing the action taken in this regard.

The move has come as a surprise from the Vijay government, which came to power with the support of students and youth. The decision has also drawn criticism as an indication that the Tamil Nadu government is following the same path as the Central government in dealing with protests.

Large-scale protests are being witnessed across the country over the deteriorating situation in the education sector. Tamil Nadu is among the states facing significant challenges in school education, creating the possibility of such protests spreading to the state as well.

The latest directive is being viewed as a move by the government to prevent such protests from gaining ground in Tamil Nadu.
