ED Petition Against Mamata to Be Heard by Supreme Court Today

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will on Thursday hear a petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking action over an incident in which a raid at the I-PAC office was allegedly obstructed under the leadership of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The writ petition will be considered by a Bench comprising Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Vipul M Pancholi.

Apart from Mamata Banerjee, the ED has sought a CBI investigation against Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar, Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma, and South Kolkata Deputy Commissioner Priyabrata Roy. The agency has alleged that the Chief Minister interfered with and obstructed the investigation into a money-laundering case linked to the coal scam.

According to the ED, during raids conducted at the residence and office of Prateek Jain, co-founder of I-PAC, in Kolkata, documents were forcibly taken away by the Chief Minister. Mamata Banerjee, however, has denied the allegations, claiming that the raid was an attempt to steal the candidates’ list from I-PAC, which she described as the Trinamool Congress party’s public relations firm.
